Last July the Victorian Woodpeckers Association were asked to raise funds for the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne. The funds are for the purchase of a Spec-trophotometer used to analyse DNA in the fight against childhood cancer. The Woodpeckers Association recently presented a cheque for $13,000 to the hospital to enable the purchase of the equipment. In appreciation for this valuable donation, the Woodpeckers committee were shown through the Cancer Wards and research laboratories. The Woodpeckers committee was moved by seeing the cancer patients and the treatment regime. The donated machine was demonstrated to the Woodpeckers committee by the laboratory staff and given an explanation on the importance of their donation.
