We are a non-profit charitable organisation
based within the furniture industry of Victoria, Australia,
Woodpeckers who provide furniture and services for under-privileged
children in Victoria. Money is raised via regular events,
activites, memberships and sponsorships .
With the assistance of furniture manufacturers in Victoria,
we have helped many institutions
and needy families with lounge suites, mattresses and
bases, bedroom furniture, dining suites, sofa beds,
televisions, video players, fridges, washing machines
and floor coverings such as carpet and vinyl.
We have recently fully furnished a house in Box Hill
for Harrison House Youth
Centre.
Our Charter
To raise money to provide furniture and other items
of necessity for under-privileged children. Over
the last 50 years, we have donated over 1/2 million
dollars in furniture products and other necessitites
to needy children throughout Victoria to make their
lives better.
History
The Woodpeckers Association has been active for over
50 years, with its first meeting being held in the upstairs
lounge of the Exhibition Hotel in Melbourne.
In the beginning, the members were furniture agents
representing different furniture manufacturers, selling
to the retailers in city and country Victoria.
Then, bedding and furniture representatives were admitted
and later on furniture retailers and sales people became
part of the association. Today, the Woodpeckers
now encompass the whole furniture trade.
How You Can Help
The Woodpeckers raise money through various events,
Golf Days, Dinner Dances, raffles and Melbourne Cup
Sweeps. We also rely on memberships and sponsorships.
All committee work for the Woodpeckers is done on a
voluntary basis.
To help support our work,
you can become a Corporate Sponsor, a Member, or make
a one-off donation which will
assist us with the costs for upcoming events and activities. |
